With the universal Christian Church, our church teaches the Triune God:
The Father, creator of all that exists;
Jesus Christ, the Son, who became human to suffer and die for the sins of all human beings and to rise to life again in the ultimate victory over death and Satan; and
The Holy Spirit, who creates faith through God’s Word and Sacraments.
The three persons of the Trinity are coequal and coeternal, one God.
We confess the three ecumenical creeds of the Apostles, the Nicene and the Athanasian Creed. In them can be found the core beliefs of the Christian faith which has been confessed by the Christian church over the centuries.
We believe, teach and confess that Jesus Christ is our Savior and Lord, and that through faith in Him we receive forgiveness of sins, eternal life and salvation. We confess that salvation is only by the grace of God through Christ, not of any human work lest anyone can boast (Eph. 2:8-9). We believe that Jesus Christ is the only way to heaven (John 14:6, Acts. 4:12).
We believe, teach and confess that all Scripture is given by the inspiration of God the Holy Spirit and that God is therefore the true Author of every word of Scripture. (2 Peter 1:21).
We believe, teach and confess that God, by the almighty power of His Word, created all things. We also believe that man, as the principal creature of God, was specially created in the image of God, that is, in a state of righteousness, innocence and blessedness.
We affirm that Adam and Eve were real historical human beings, the first two people in the world, and that their fall was a historical occurrence which brought sin into the world. We confess that man’s fall necessitated the gracious redemptive work of Jesus Christ and that fallen man’s only hope for salvation from his sin lies in Jesus Christ, his Redeemer and Lord.
Baptism and the Lord's Supper are very special means by which God imparts to each of us this forgiveness we so desperately need but so completely cannot obtain by ourselves. The grace of God is truly exemplified in our practice of infant baptism where through that action we confess we can not decide for Christ, nor bring ourselves to faith, but instead Christ decides for us and gifts us with saving faith. In the Lord’s Supper, Christ offers us His true body and blood in, with, and under the bread and wine. Thus, the bread and wine are not symbols, nor are they changed into the body and blood of Christ but are hosts which host the true body and blood of Christ in a supernatural way beyond human comprehension. We call this Real Presence. In this Sacrament, He continually forgives our sins and strengthens our faith. Due to the gifts He offers in that Sacrament, we celebrate it weekly.
Our congregations accept and preach the Bible-based teachings of Martin Luther that inspired the reformation of the Christian Church in the 16th century. The teaching of Luther and the reformers can be summarized in three phases: Grace alone, Faith alone, Scripture alone.
